Obituary for Willie Emborse Coleman

Willie Coleman was born in Charlotte County on September 2, 1932, to Mary and Archie Coleman. In 1955 Willie was wed to Nancy Reid. Willie and Nancy relocated from Randolph, VA to Roxbury, MA in 1957.

Willie held various positions during his employment career. Beginning as a plastic platter presser and clothes presser for Sarni Cleaners in Brookline MA, Manager of One Hour Day Cleaners in Waltham, MA, a technician for Honeywell Inc. in Needham MA., and in 2007 retiring as Technical Associate Supervisor for Teleplans, Inc.

Willie was a political activist in the early 1960s and 1970s. He worked with the Boardman Group which fought for educational equality for students of color in the city of Boston, currently known as the Metco Program, which buses Boston students to suburban schools. In the 1970's he worked with Boston Mayor Kevin White who created little city halls in neighborhoods so that people could have direct access to city services. He worked tirelessly with his neighbors to create a safe environment and a voice in the community for positive change.

Willie had a passion for sports and music and was an avid Yankees and Golden State Warriors fan. He loved cooking and fishing and his favorite entertainer was Tina Turner. He had a great sense of humor and he loved his family dearly.

Willie leaves to cherish his loving memories his beloved children, Cynthia Odoms and Willie E. Coleman, Jr., both of Boston, MA, and Kevin Coleman of Norwood MA; grandchildren, Justin Odoms of Boston, MA, Scott Coleman of Germany, Jayden and Jordan Coleman of Stoughton, MA, Josslyn and, Jasmine Coleman of Norwood, MA; great-grandsons, Milan Coleman, Jermaine and Levin Coleman of Germany; son-in-law, Tony Odoms of Boston, MA; daughter-in-law, Andrea Coleman of Norwood, MA; his devoted friend, Faye Baker; and a host of nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
