Obituary for William L Roper Jr.

William L. Roper, Jr.
Dorchester Center, Massachusetts
November 2, 1937 – February 5, 2022

It is with much sadness we announce, William L. (Bill) Roper, Jr., only child of Lottie Marshall Roper and William L. Roper, Sr., of Boston, Massachusetts passed peacefully at him home surrounded by his family and loyal cat.

Beloved husband of Trudy Kibbe Roper and loving father of son, Ty J. Kibbe Roper; loving father of sons: Steve Roper (Erine) of Denver, CO; William L. Roper III; and their mother, Nancy Roper; loving father of daughters, Nicole Kibbe Shealey (Rodney) of South Orange, NJ, and Tonya Kibbe Slocumb (Heathcliff); brother-in-law of Gwyn Kibbe Darby (Maurice) of Watertown, MA; brother-in-law of John L. Kibbe, Jr., (Barbara) of Missouri City, TX; loving grandfather of Cole and Chase Shealey, Avrie Slocumb, and Mia and Dakota Pitts-Hope.

A lifelong Bostonian and a proud veteran, Bill served as an aircraft mechanic in the United States Air Force (1960-1965). He was the owner/operator of Roper’s Auto Service in Dorchester and Roxbury, MA for nearly 50 years.

Roper, as he was called by his many friends and associates, was a true people person who loved and was loved by his family and his community. Bill was the epitome of the man who would give the shirt off his back to help someone – a shining example of a caretaker and caregiver.

Bill never missed an opportunity to joke, chat, and share old stories with that booming voice and infectious laugh with all of us. He enjoyed time with family, friends, his pets, boating, being outdoors, shooting pool, World War II documentaries, solving mechanical problems, NASCAR, and of course, making cars and boats run better or faster.

When remembering Bill, you can’t help but remember his gentle and kind nature, his laughter, his loyalty, and that friendly greeting to us all: “How you feel?”.
