Obituary for Sonny Mardy

Sonny was born in La Gonave (Haiti) on June 12, 1952, to father La voix Mardy and Mother Pauline Asseille.

He was the second born of three sons and two daughters. At the time of his death, Sonny was the only one alive out of his four siblings. He did not have the opportunity for much formal education. He immigrated to the United States 45 years ago. He worked in an orange factory until he started doing businesses and traveling back and forth from the U.S. to Haiti. He loved to fish. In his earlier years in Haiti he used to be a fisherman. Sonny was a sea captain and a shipmaster.

Sonny loved football. Before signing professionally to a team, he broke his leg and never had the opportunity to play football again. His love for his businesses and travelling wasn’t his greatest accomplishment. His greatest accomplishment was being a father. Sonny leaves eleven children and their surviving parent : Merline Mardy, Sonite Metayer Mardy, Jidite Mardy, Esnite Mardy, Shenita Thompson, Sonly Mardy, Jacky LeGrand, Louvard Mardy, Snater Mathieu, MackSon, and Sarah Fina Mardy.

Sonny loved all his children equally even though he wasn’t present in some of his children’s lives. Sonny was a kind and a quiet man. He loved to help people. He loved and cherished all of his nine grandchildren: Jonathan Mardy, Ahmya Lynn Coriolan, Xaniah Olivia Coriolan, Ru’ziya Thompson, Roodline Jessika Mardy, Rutavyon Williams, and Khari Miller. Although he has left his eleven children behind, he will always be in their hearts and minds for the rest of their lives.
