Nicole LaShaunda Putman (Nikki) was born on March 16, 1972, to Teriera Putman and Arthur Mitchell Jr. The family established roots in Boston’s South End neighborhood. Nikki attended the Prince Elementary School on Newbury Street, Clarence R. Edwards Middle School in East Boston, and journeyed through Madison Park High and Charlestown High before completing her GED at Job Corp.
Nicole joined Union United Methodist Church and was an active member, singing in the Spiritual Light Youth Choir. As a teen, Nicole knew how she wanted to live her life and the adventures she wanted to experience. After completing Job Corp, she explored college courses in business and leadership at Fisher College on Newbury Street. Nicole strove to be a leader in business, and a leader she was. In 2007, she joined her family in establishing Families First Daycare, in the South End. There, she assisted with marketing and business planning, most often greeting families bringing their children to the center first thing in the morning. She truly loved serving her community and providing a comforting and reassuring smile to many parents.
In the late 1990s, Nicole met and fell in love with Omobowale Wright, and God blessed them with a son, Christian. Nicole and Omobowale were married in June 2003. The wonderful thing about Nicole was that she didn't live for just herself. Most of Nicole's favorite activities revolved around spending quality time with friends and family, whether in person, on the phone, or on social media. She was always helping and encouraging others simply by being their “go-to” person when they needed someone to talk to. Never a moment went by where Nicole didn’t know how you were, what you needed, or offer to help.
In 2010, Nicole began to struggle with her health. With the support of her family and many friends, she embraced her new journey of self-care. Throughout those years, she remained a wonderful mom, loving sister, devoted daughter, and a great friend to many while always continuing to wear her beautiful smile. On Saturday, March 26th, 2022, at 3:07 pm God took Nicole by the hand and said, “no more pain for my beloved daughter”.
Nicole is preceded in death by her daughter, Brittany Putman. She is survived by her mother Teriera Putman; father, Arthur Mitchell; sisters, Deloris Mitchell and Shemeka Maxwell and brother Sharif Oneal; grandmother, Margaret Putman; aunts, Felicia Putman, Sylvia Lewis and Kathleen West; uncle, John Putman; nephews Andrez and Darius Gonzalez and Acacio Taylor; and cousins, Danielle and Gary Lewis and a host of friends.
