Obituary for Mattie "'Auntie'" Evans

On Thursday February 10, 2022, Mattie Evans ‘Auntie’ departed this life to go and rejoice with the angels. She was 76 years old.

Mattie was born to the late Charlie Lawson and Flora Bell Lawson in Eaton, GA. on December 14th of 1945. Before joining the Holy Tabernacle Church, she worshipped at the Cathedral of Faith Church in Lynn, MA under the leadership of Pastor Gwendolyn Wheeler, where she also served on the usher board.

Mattie spent several years working at Morgan Laundry Services, Inc. in Boston, MA and at the Colonial Meat Company where she was a supervisor over the administrative office. Mattie, however, found her niche in the healthcare sector years later where she worked as a CNA. She was also employed at the Walter E. Fernald School in Waltham, MA.

Auntie, as many of us knew her, enjoyed cooking two of her favorite and popular dishes: macaroni salad and lasagna. She also enjoyed taking her nieces and nephews to amusement parks like Whalom Park and Canobie Lake and even a road trip to Florida for a Disney World vacation.

She is preceded in death by her Mother and Father, her sister Dorothy McCoy and a brother, Alvin Lawson, her son, Dwayne Broadus and one nephew Ronald McCoy.

She also leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Dorothy Broadus; 4 nieces Theresa Fennell, Michelle McCoy, Christine McCoy, Bernetta McCoy and one cousin James McCall; two grandchildren, Davelle and Isaac Broadus, and five great grandchildren, Davelle Anthony Jr, Jada Rae, Adriana Lynne, Sklyer Lynne and Cameron Broadus. And a host of nieces nephews, family and friends. ‘Auntie’ will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Face masks are required for all individuals visiting the funeral home and church, regardless of vaccination status. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
