Obituary for Martha E. King (Parris)

Martha E. (Parris) King was born in Boston on March 1, 1935, and departed this life on March 21, 2023. She was the oldest of 6 children and was considered as a second mother to her sisters and brothers.

Martha graduated from the High School of Practical Arts in 1953. She married Lloyd King (deceased) in 1954, they had 5 children but the union did not last.

She was a member of Morgan Memorial Church of All Nations. She attended the church as a child and taught Sunday School as an adult.

As a teenager Martha worked at Beth Israel Hospital in the Dietary department. After having her children, she worked in several different daycare centers. She also, worked at Harvard Community Health Plan Hospital on Parker Hill Ave until it closed. Then went to work for the HCHP Health Clinic in Kenmore and West Roxbury. She retired from HPHC West Roxbury in 2000. Not ready to stop working, she became a special needs bus monitor for the Boston Schools. Her last job was working for Aramark at Fenway Park.

Martha also, worked with the neighborhood Action Program in Eglestion Square in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. She was considered the mother of the neighborhood feeding and watching out for the neighbors’ children when she lived on Ennis Rd. and Bragdon St.

Her hobbies were, cooking, sewing, doing crossword puzzles and word searches. She was feisty and straight forward, always had to have the last word. She left us the way she wanted with no regrets.

Martha was preceded in death by her sons David, Douglass and Darryl King, parents James and Frances Parris, sisters Jacqueline Furtado, Jestina Lawrence and her brother Richard Parris.

She leaves to mourn her daughter Donna King, son Derrek King, brothers Samuel and Donald Parris, 8 grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
