Obituary for John Blackmon

JD “John” Blackmon was born to the late Louise Grimes and late Leon Blackmon, Sr. on December 8, 1940, in Pineapple, Alabama. JD received his early education in the Pineapple, Alabama Public School system. In the early 1960’s, JD relocated to Boston, Massachusetts where he worked for Sage Spices and later worked for Boston Frozen Foods. It was during this time he met and fell in love with Shirley Holliday Lloyd. From their union came Don, Anthony “Tony”, and Dianne “Dee Dee” whom JD affectionately referred to as “Dianna”.

It was in 1979 that he would start his own business, JD’s Painting Services. His business sense, work ethics and love for the trade would enable the company to remain operable for some 20 plus years until his retirement in the early 2000’s.

JD was warm, passionate and willing to help anyone in need. He was everyone’s favorite uncle. In his spare time, JD was a jack of all trades and loved to do odd jobs around the house. Not shy about his intellect, JD was opinionated, vocal, outspoken and had a way with words. JD was big on political and worldly news and was equally passionate about sports.

JD enjoyed life and loved spending time with family and friends. He was the “go to” person for his friends, often giving advice whether solicited or not. He was always the family man and he looked forward to daily phone conversations with his siblings.

On December 11, 2022, after a sudden and unexpected illness, JD peacefully transitioned from life on earth while surrounded by his loved ones.

JD is preceded in death by siblings: Frizell Blackmon; Eddie R. Smith; Landry Smith; Curtis Henderson, Sr.; Walter Johnson; Lee Willing Johnson, Sr.; Douglas Johnson.
