On Thursday, May 04, 2023 Joana Johnson-Smith earned her heavenly wings at Boston Medical Center, Boston, MA. Joana Johnson-Smith was born to the late Juanita Johnson and Josiah Henderson Sr. on February 01, 1952 in Boston, MA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Smith Sr. and son, Frank Smith, Jr. At a young age, Mrs. Johnson-Smith attended Boston Public School where she graduated from Jeremiah Burke High school in 1969. After high school she went on to pursue her nursing degree from Northeastern University and graduated with honors in 1973.
After graduating she went on to work for Boston Medical Center (formerly known as Boston City Hospital) for over 30 years. After earning her bachelor's Degree in nursing, she united in holy matrimony on December 25, 1973 to Frank Smith Sr. and they had four beautiful children. Mrs. Johnson-Smith truly had a heart of gold and devoted countless hours to helping others. She was proud mom who supported three children with autism and many others with developmental challenges.
She travel far and near to advocate for people with disabilities. From the Massachusetts State House to Washington, DC she was a strong voice advocating for those with special needs. She served as president and member of Supporting Our Special Children (SOS) at Dimock Street Health Center for twenty five years. She also served on the Dimock Street Human Rights Board for many years.
Remaining to forever cherish her precious memories are: a daughter Stephanie A. Regan of Boston, MA, Three Sons: Frank Smith Jr. (deceased) Reginald Smith of Boston, MA, David Ross Smith of Boston, three brothers: Glenn Johnson Sr. of Framingham MA. Warren Johnson (Deceased) Josiah Johnson of Boston, MA, one sister: Joanne Johnson, two sisters in laws: Betty and Josephine and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family that loved her dearly.
