Obituary for Jimmy Gardner

Mr. Jimmy Gardner was born in Florence, South Carolina on November 5, 1948 to his parents, William Grant and Beatrice English. He passed peacefully from this life the morning of December 30, 2021 after a gradual decline in health. Jimmy received his formal education at Wilson High School in Florence, South Carolina, where he was in the marching band and excelled in his studies.

After graduating from high school, Jimmy left Florence, South Carolina and took a job with the circus in Florida, where he worked for many years before coming to Boston to be with his mother and family.

While in Boston, Jimmy had several jobs. One of those jobs was in the carpentry field. He worked for several companies until he decided to own his own business installing carpets and rugs all over Massachusetts and out-of-state as well.

Jimmy loved spending time with his family and friends, cracking jokes and making people laugh. He was a kind soul, musically inclined, and loved to dance.

Jimmy leaves his doting mother, Beatrice English; his only daughter; Yolanda Self of Florence, South Carolina; brothers: Gabriel Simmons and Christopher Scott Boston, MA; sisters: Betty Jean Gandy, Angel Harrison of Boston, MA; brother-in-law, Alfred Newson ( Brockton ); four grandchildren: A’reonna Self, Quavon Self-Harrison, Taraje’ Self and Nyleiah Self ( all from Florence, South Carolina); uncle, Tommy Gardner ( Boston); and his aunt, Florence Cato (Boston); nephews, nieces, great nieces, and cousins, and many, many, friends. He is preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Newson; aunt, Carrie Lee Dillard; brother, Ralph Toney; and brother-in-law, Michael Gandy. Special thanks are extended to Bostonian Skilled Nursing Home Rehabilitation-BaneCare staff for taking good care of Jimmy while he was in their care.
