Obituary for Dorothy L. Fleming (Crawford)

The Book of Life for Dorothy Louise Fleming closed on Thursday April 6, 2023 at Massachusetts General Hospital.

After months of being afflicted, her sudden departure brought profound grief and sadness to her family and loved ones and countless friends in and around her community.

Dorothy Louise was born on June 16, 1935 in Augusta, GA to the late Johnny Crawford and Nancy Dunn. Dorothy decided to relocate to Boston, Massachusetts in 1954 with her young daughter Deloris Crawford who was only three years old at that time. Dorothy decided that she wanted to make Boston, MA her home.

In May 1963 she met and married Julius Fleming Jr. From that reunion her children received a New Dad and Julius received a new family. Throughout the following years Dorothy made sure that her children had everything they needed and if we behaved most of the time our New Dad made sure we received everything we wanted, even when our Mom would say no.

Dorothy decided to get into the Healthcare field at a very early age. She worked for several years at Massachusetts General Hospital, University Hospital, Peter Brent Brigham, (which is now called Brigham and Women’s, and Boston City Hospital (which is now called Boston Medical Center. At Boston City Hospital, Dorothy flourished in her new career. She worked countless hours but always made time for her family

Dorothy had a lot of charisma; she was beautiful she loved to dance and what a great cook she was. Dorothy loved her grandchildren. She would spend countless hours making sweet potato pies and bread pudding, for all of them. She was known for not just cooking and feeding her children all the neighbor kids always knew what time dinner was at “The Crawford’s House. Because they would all be there eating too. Dorothy loved to cook and she loved to make other people happy with her wise words of wisdom.

We all thank God for letting us have her for many years. We loved her dearly, but God loved her more.

Proceeding Dorothy in death are her husband Julius Fleming her sons Edward (Eddie) Crawford, Demetrius Whitney, father Johnny Crawford mother Nancy Dunn her 4 sister Juanita Ivery, Trudale Dunn, Clara Crawford, and Magaline Dunn her granddaughter Tara J. Crawford and her grandson Brett (Randy) Stevenson and son-in-law Daniel C. Davis

Dorothy is survived by her 2 brothers Johnny Crawford and Willie James Baldwin, 11 children Deloris Crawford, Marie Crawford Posey, Angelo Crawford, Donna Crawford Davis, Joseph Crawford, Annette Crawford, Dorothea Crawford, Julius Fleming Jr., Virgil Fleming, Willie James Baldwin, Keyla Price and her 2 Step daughters Monique Whitney, and Valeria Whitney, and Son-in-Law Jerome Posey and Daughter-in-Law Sandra Fleming

Dorothy leaves behind a host of greatgrandchildren, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and lots of friends
