Delores W. Wyche, 88, formerly of Jamaica Plain, MA, most recently of Nashville, TN, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2021 after a brief battle with lung cancer.
In 1950, after graduating from high school in Phoenix, AZ, she got on a Greyhound bus and traveled north to Boston to live with her aunt. She married Hamilton “Bud” Wyche in an elegant ceremony in 1961. They raised two daughters, Lisa and Kimberlee, in Dorchester and later moved to Jamaica Plain. She started as an operator at New England Telephone in Boston in the mid-1950s, and became one of the first black supervisors in the Operator Services organization. She went on to hold several managerial positions throughout her career, retiring from NYNEX in 1992 after over 30 years of service.
She enjoyed candlepin bowling, playing bingo and cards and taking trips to Foxwoods. Delores and Bud loved to host holiday meals and cookouts with extended family and friends, and the house was often filled with people and laughter.
Delores is predeceased by her husband, Hamilton.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Wyche of Peachtree Corners, GA and Dr. Kimberlee Wyche-Etheridge of Nashville, TN, grandchildren Jameer Hamilton Etheridge and Quincee Olivia Etheridge of Nashville, TN, sons-in-law Ramiro Ponton of Peachtree Corners, GA and Donovan Etheridge of Nashville, TN as well as beloved family and friends across the country.
