Obituary for Constance Roszena Claiborne

Constance Roszena Claiborne , daughter of Lucille Jones Blick and John Jack Blick was born on December 27, 1934 in Lawrenceville, Virginia and departed this life on August 16, 2023.

She received her education in the public schools of Lawrenceville, Virginia where she graduated high school.

She was employed with Children's Hospital of Boston for 35 years and retired as the Head Anesthesia Technician where she was presented with multiple awards for her dedication, commitment, and service.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Reverend Harmon Claiborne on March 5, 1953. From this union, six children were born; three of which preceded her in death: Gene, Marilyn and Melvin. Her children were the joy of her life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her children and anyone who needed a mother’s love.

Constance accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Shorts Chapel in Virginia. She became a member of Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Elijah Gilbert, and continued under the current leadership of Bishop John M. Borders, III. As a member, she served faithfully in various roles over the years including the Diaconate Board, Senior Choir, and Senior Ministry. She was a founding member of the Nurses Unit and President of the Mass Choir for many years. Constance would coordinate many church trips and outings such as trips to Baltimore, Detroit, South Carolina, New York City trips to Broadway, Amusement Parks, Buffet Dinners for the Transportation Ministry, or other church auxiliary groups. She was also an ordained Deaconess by the late Reverend Walter A. Stevenson of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

She enjoyed fishing, traveling, shopping, singing, playing games, dancing, and cruising. Her greatest love in life was her family which she cherished dearly. She was blessed to see four generations. She raised her children, many of her grandchildren, and any children God placed in her path. She was known fondly by all the children's lives she touched simply as Grandma.

The life and memory of our loved one shall long be remembered by her three surviving daughters: Gloria Claiborne of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Carolyn Claiborne of Fall River, MA; and Pamela Claiborne of Boston, MA ; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
