Obituary for Catherine Key (Dixon)

Catherine (Dixon) Key, departed on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at MGB, Newton Wellesley in the early Morning Hours.

Catherine was born August 16, 1938, in Butler, Choctaw County, Alabama to the late Grover & Mary Dixon. She migrated to Boston in the early 1950’s with her family. Where she attended Roxbury Memorial High School.

She met her husband the late Howard Key Sr. from the union she received (2) Bonus children Joanne Key and Howard Key Jr.

Catherine joined St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church, Roxbury MA along with her other siblings in the late 50’s and later joined Strait Gate Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Dorchester, MA under the late Elder Simon Turner and was a faithful member until taking ill. Catherine was well known for wearing her Fancy Hats definitely a “Fashionista”.

Catherine worked at State Street Bank & Trust for 35 years where she retired at the age of 65.

Love continuously outpoured from Catherine’s heart. She had a vibrant personality and was sure to extend a loving gesture or warm smile to anyone she encountered. She was very nurturing to all. Catherine was an inspiration; she raised her Grand/Great Grandchildren. She would hold on to those fleeting moments that mattered most. An important event in the lives of her Grand/Great children’s proud accomplishments. She was indeed a woman with many gifts and social grace. Catherine loved her family vacations, and her home was always open to hosting the “Annual Family Barbecue’s” every holiday.

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Howard Key Sr; children, Joanne Key & Howard Key Jr., 6 brothers, IV (Mary), Grover (Jannie), Bine Dixon, Atlas, Sr., H.K. (Rosa), Eddie Slay and 4 sisters Johnnie Mae Thomas (Aaron), Connie Mae Ray (Silas), Tinsey Mae Burch (Andrew), and Lorena Dixon.

Catherine leaves behind 2 Sister-in-laws Pearlie Dixon of Tampa, Florida & Lucille Dixon Milton, MA. 5 Grand Children: Christina Key-Whigham, Joey Key, Nadine Key, James Joseph, Nekeiea Joseph and 12 Great Grandchildren: Jonathan Whigham, Alma Nicole Whigham, Jala Norris, Anthony Norris, Eboni Whingard, Siani Joseph, Dariella Joseph, Keva Kirby, Tavis Kirby, Adrian Kirby, Eva Dixon, Jalen Joseph.
1 God Child Angela Dixon Howard a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends she loved dearly.
